Keep Me Coming Back For More

This isn’t exactly a normal pick for me, which is especially true after like three weeks straight of Blind Pilot, but I seriously love to sing along and dance to Maroon 5. Adam Levine always strikes me as a little skanky, but in the good it’s so wrong that it’s right kind of way. Plus, he’s a Pisces and I have to love my fellow emotional ones.

“Sometimes you move so well
It's hard not to give in
I'm lost, I can't tell
Where you end and I begin…”

Mrow.

Mostly, if you don’t love this song and video, I cannot love you. Ok, not really, but I do have a strong, deep seeded love for this song. It is so romantic and I just worship Robert Smith in the early days with his manliner and nonchalant over emotionality. Plus, who doesn’t love a video where a creepy cat puppet follows R.Smith about making him giggle.

“We move like cagey tigers
We couldn’t get closer than this
The way we walk
The way we talk
The way we stalk
The way we kiss…”

“Whenever I hear your heart talking, it’s a song…”

I’m going to see Wilco next week. I haven’t listened to them in years, so I dug out some old albums. It’s amazing how much a song can spark my memory.

A long time ago in a land far, far away, there was a guy who sent me the lyrics to Pick Up The Change because they always made him think about me. Hearing it caused so many memories to flood me. Snippets of conversations and the hours we spent laughing on the phone until 3am. It was the kind of silly things that are fun to remember.

These days, he probably grumbles something along the lines of “That stupid bi…” when he hears the song. He deserves that because I was young, silly, and careless with his heart. When I hear it, it reminds me of the good things. If he (he being the dude that closely resembled the green Power Ranger, drew me pictures of Calvin to cheer me up, and laughed at my doornail joke) ever happened to read this, I would be happy for him to know that I have the happiest memories of him and still remember how special this song was between us.

“We used to have a lot of things in common
But you know now we’re just the same
You always had more than I really wanted…”

Awesomeness Redux

I kept putting off last week’s entry because I’ve been stuck listening to Blind Pilot and Black Kids over and over again. I ended up taking a long weekend off from work and then completely forgot to write or force myself to listen to new music, and since I really love both of these songs, I decided to just go with it.

The first song is I've Underestimated My Charm (Again) by the Black Kids. It’s just sorta quirky with great lyrics. About 2 minutes in, it changes to a different song and I love that I can’t decide if I like the beginning or end better.

"Didn't mean to do you no harm,
I just underestimated my charm.
And if I ever bother to tell you the truth,
oh, baby, you're too much sugar for
my sweet tooth."

The second song is 3 Rounds and a Sound by Blind Pilot. Why? This is just one of the most beautiful and sweet songs that I’ve heard. I love songs that make you feel like you’re in love and I always get that warm potential for love glow when I listen to this one. Who doesn’t wish for feelings like these about someone special?

"I was swimming
My eyes were dark
Til you woke me
And told me that opening is just the start
It was."

"Courage laced with alcohol"

I first heard Blind Pilot from one of those free Starbucks downloads. Every time it played, I’d turn on my iPod to see what it was and make a note that I wanted the full album. A few days ago, a fellow music junkie at work gifted me some new music to try and 3 Rounds and a Sound was in there. I’ve had a really hard time listening to anything else now that I’ve heard it. Their sound is so beautiful and melodic ,and they have some seriously fantastic lyrics that are poetic and emotional .

With every listen of Oviedo, I click my handy little Last.fm Love button and feel like professing to everyone how much I really do love this song.

“Four times is once too much for love
That's how many times the clock struck
I wandered home, saying your name”

One is never enough. I have such a thing for awesome covers, so check out Look At Miss Ohio:
